Metallic structures in service seawater are protected by coupling cathodic protection and paints, where the former may induce disbondment of latter. A preliminary evaluation risk can be made tests (CDTs). Many CDTs use potentials as large E < −1400 mV versus saturated calomel electrode (SCE) applied up to 90 days. Only two CDT protocols require contemporary anode isolation, current pH monitoring, without its correction. These three aspects were considered develop a hybrid CDT; it consisted polarizing steel panels at −1500 SCE for 12 weeks. The chemical effects related anodic processes investigated. acidic shift was observed justified increasing demand due paint damage brucite precipitation on panels. necessity isolating glass prevent chlorine attack against potentially affecting result, verified estimating virtual induced free chlorine.
